The Challenge
Weather, climate, marketing and contaminants (pesticides) information are critical components for decision making
among beekeepers around the world. The accuracy and access to such information is needed to enhance their
decision-making capacity because traditional information dissemination approaches have been found to be inadequate.
The solver will build, test and, if successful, make available through analytical modelling, cloud-based data service platform
that will run on computer devices that can provide near real-time information to Beekeepers communities on:
- the status of the forage resources and water supplies in the beekeeping areas of Kenya.
- Weather and climate information
- Warnings on areas to be avoided due to human activities on pesticides usage (contaminants database).
- Pesticides database
The cloud-based data platform is expected to utilize pesticide/contaminant information; weather and climate
information; remotely sensed agro-meteorological data (TAMSAT,CHIPS, etc); traditional methods of participatory
scenario planning (PSP); indigenous knowledge and crowd-sourced information.
