Launch of the 2021 World Economic Situation and Prospects Report. (WESP 2021)

31 March, 2021
Virtual

Time:    11.00 – 12.30 hrs (Addis-Ababa)

The Economic Commission for Africa is pleased to invite you to the launch of the 2021 World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP 2021) report.

The report was prepared jointly by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the five United Nations Regional Commissions.

The main objective of the report is to provide new analysis and forecasts on global macroeconomic development prospects, the associated risks and uncertainties and present some policy challenges that might confront the future of the global economy in the medium- to long-term, as well as the associated policy prescriptions. The report stresses that despite the modest recovery expected in 2021, Africa is experiencing a severe downturn which undermines development prospects in the continent. To sustain a resilient recovery, African countries need strong policy actions and further support from the international community in averting a debt crisis and protracted low growth.

The event will take place virtually on Wednesday, 31 March 2021 from 11.00 – 12.30 EAT (Addis-Ababa Time).
