Gender-Smart Investing – UNECA and Oxford Economics Africa to Launch Joint Report in Marrakech Next Week

Marrakech, December 10, 2023 –The ECA Office for North Africa and Oxford Economics Africa will launch their latest joint report, "Gender-Smart Investing in Support of Inclusive Growth in North Africa," on Wednesday 13 December in Marrakech at the Arab SMEs Summit 2023.

The new report delves into the North African entrepreneurial and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) landscape with a focus on the contributions of women. It examines how governments and the private sector can employ market and financial mechanisms to improve women’s access both to the job market and entrepreneurship through gender-smart investing.

Gender-smart investing has been gaining increasing attention from policymakers, investors, and development stakeholders worldwide owing to its positive impact on job creation, the acceleration of SME growth and of national economies in general, while also aiding in the reduction of gender disparities.

In most North African countries, less than 20 percent of the employed working-age population is female, compared to a global average of 40 percent.
