Mbour (Senegal), October 21, 2021 - The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), through its sub-regional office for West Africa, co-organizes with the Regional Centre of Excellence in Generational Economics (CREG) the second edition of the NTA (National Transfer Accounts) - AFRICA Conference with the collaboration of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), as well as partner universities and development partners.
Scheduled for October 27 to 29 in Mbour, Senegal, the central theme of this conference is: "Generational economy in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: Implications for the achievements of the SDGs in Africa".
The choice of this theme is motivated by the desire to support the actors and development partners of Africa through research on the central place of population issues as a means of reversing the unfavourable trends of economic indicators. The challenge is to contribute, in the context of the global health crisis, to the decade of bold action to achieving the goals by 2030 in Africa.
The main objective of this meeting is to create a framework for reflection and exchange of innovative ideas between researchers, development actors and political decision-makers to address population and sustainable development issues in Africa in a context of global health crisis.
In specific terms, this conference will promote research in generational economics in Africa in order to address population issues, develop approaches and tools to integrate demographic dynamics into growth strategies in a perspective of inclusive and resilient development, analyse the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the demographic and socioeconomic situation in Africa and examine ways and means for the acceleration of the implementation of the SDGs, within the framework of the Decade of Action, to share the most recent results on population and development issues with the research community and decision-makers and to promote exchanges between academia and development practitioners on the burning economic and demographic issues of Africa.
This meeting will bring together about 100 participants from African universities and elsewhere, national, regional and international development support institutions.
