Building African Financial Markets Seminar – A Focus on Market Resilience and Growth

Addis Ababa, 20 June 2024 (ECA) – The 12th Annual Building African Financial Markets (BAFM) Seminar was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from June 19 to June 20, 2024. The event was organized by the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in partnership with the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

The BAFM Seminar is an annual event aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration to promote growth, resilience, efficiency, and inclusivity within African financial markets.  This year seminar's theme, "Navigating new horizons: Evolving African financial markets," focused on capacitating and mobilizing Africa's financial and capital markets towards advanced digitalization and sustainability.  Keynote speakers, including CEOs of leading African stock exchanges and financial experts, shared their insights on the challenges and opportunities within the continent's financial markets.

The seminar featured a series of panel discussions that addressed topics such as digital transformation, regulatory harmonization, market liquidity, financial inclusion, and the impact of climate change on financial markets. The seminar also highlighted the importance of collaboration between African stock exchanges and global partners. The BAFM 2024 seminar was a significant step towards strengthening Africa's financial markets and positioning them for future challenges and opportunities.
