The Protocol and Liaison Services Unit is one of the core units within the Publications and Conference Management Section. Its mission is maintaining excellence in providing consistent, ethical and high-quality protocol services to its internal and external clients and at the same time preserving and protecting the integrity of the strategic vision of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
The Protocol and Liaison Service serves the protocol needs of the Commission, including those of the Executive Secretary and the two Deputy Executive Secretaries. It also interfaces with the Diplomatic Missions as well as offices of the specialized agencies and related organizations stationed in Addis Ababa. The Service applies an orderly, uniform set of rules and governing codes of behavior in diplomatic forums, meetings and ceremonies involving missions/observers and their representatives.
The Unit is vested with the responsibility of providing protocol services to senior officials and VIPs. In addition, the Unit provides a number of other services, including those related to securing Residence IDs, visas, arranging lodging for meeting participants and other guests, airport meet and greet services, and processing authentication of driving licences.
