Currently, African countries are losing an average of 10% of their annual GDP due to cyber-related crime. ECA works to improve cyber resilience and connectivity in Africa through policy interventions and knowledge production such as the African Cybersecurity Report and ECA's Guideline for Model Law on Cybersecurity.
On 16 August 2022, UNECA signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Togo for the establishment of the African Center for Coordination and Research in Cybersecurity (ACCR) to be situated in Lomé, Togo. The center will act independently and objectively in providing expertise related to cybersecurity and the investigation of cross-border cybercrime.
