WSIS+10 Action Lines: ECA Cybersecurity session at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), 13 March 2023, Geneva
Theme: ‘Cybersecurity at the center of Digital Transformation in Africa’. The session presented recent insights on Africa’s cybersecurity research and ECA’s Guideline Model law on cybersecurity. The event garnered a multistakeholder conversation in alignment with the WSIS Action Lines involving parliamentarians, cybersecurity experts, and implementing partners working on cybersecurity policy.
Africa Data Leadership Initiative (ADLI) Peer Learning Workshop, 25 April, Victoria Falls:
Held on the margins of the Transform Africa Summit and in partnership with Smart Africa and the Digital Impact Alliance, the workshop focused on data protection policies and institutions and brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to discuss institutional frameworks around data protection policies and strategies for instituting robust data protection authorities in African countries. The major takeaway includes the need for more efforts to be made at the continent level to harmonize data protection frameworks and reinforce the user's sovereign data ownership.

Exploring the UNECA Insight’ in collaboration with ECA, conducted its 11th webinar series on "Cybersecurity in West Africa: Exploring the UNECA Insight". The webinar was geared towards sharing insights on cybersecurity investment, cybersecurity career uptake, and best practices.
Implementation of Digital ID Systems in Africa, on the margins of ID4Africa, 23-24 May 2023, Nairobi
ECA supported the participation of experts at a regional workshop hosted in the margins of ID4Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop aimed at fostering policy dialogue and priority setting considering the mainstream adoption of generative artificial intelligence and implementation of a robust digital ID framework aligned with the African Union's Digital Transformation Strategy.
Regional Workshop on Digital ID and Interoperability in Africa, 6 – 8 July 2023, Banjul
ECA, in collaboration with The Gambian Government, brought together African government institutions representatives, representatives of financial and telecommunications institutions and companies, data/tech companies, and civil society organizations among others. The key objective was to facilitate discussions among stakeholders to deliberate on the state of digital identity development and management in the African continent while exploring efficient solutions for attaining interoperability for Digital IDs and payment systems in Africa.

A regional review meeting took place in Cape Town on 4-5 July to incorporate Africa's perspective into the United Nations Global Digital Compact (GDC) and promote a more inclusive and equitable digital future.
