Background
The High-Level Dialogue for Southern Africa on Financing Africa’s recovery is being organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Sub-regional Office for Southern Africa, under the Theme: Financing Africa’s Recovery: Breaking New Ground.
Venue: Virtually on Thursday, 31 March 2022 from 10h00-13h00 CAT.
Objective: To provide a platform to discuss and internalize the issues paper to be presented for discussion at the 2022 Conference of African Ministers of Finance and Economic Planning to be held on the theme of the dialogue in Dakar, Senegal from 11 to 17 May 2022. The paper explores the continent’s financing landscape and evaluates the challenges and opportunities associated with enhancing the quality and scale of Africa’s development financing to support an enduring recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and other shocks. The Southern Africa dialogue will bring to bear the perspectives of the region on the theme.
Planned discussion during the dialogue:
• Measures that should be put in place to crowd-in private sector financing,
• Ways that member States can effectively and efficiently utilize their new allocation of IMF’s SDRs,
• Measures that member States should put in place to mobilize climate financing,
• Proposed financing measures to identify those that resonate well with countries, including highlights of experiences and lessons learned.
