Twelve Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa

5 September, 2024 to 7 September, 2024
Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire

About CCDA-XII

The ClimDev-Africa partners (the African Union Commission, the Economic Commission for Africa and the Africa Development Bank), in collaboration with PACJA and other regional institutions, have scheduled the 12th conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-XII) for the 5-7 September 2024 in Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire. The event will be convened on the sidelines of the AMCEN special meeting.

In advance of the conference, the partners have convened numerous events in preparation for the 12th CCDA conference. These include:

  • Multi-stakeholder Consultative Forum on COP28 Reflections and 2024 Strategy in February.
  • The Fifth Africa Climate Talks (ACT!) on “Climate change and development in Africa: a critical inquiry into third generation NDCs (NDC 3.0) and just transitions for Africa” in April.
  • Workshop on Regulating carbon markets: building capacity for the Implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement in May.
  • Participated in the 60th sessions of UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies in June.

The annual Climate Change and Development in Africa Conference (CCDA) is a flagship event of ClimDev-Africa. It provides a forum for stakeholders such as policy makers, climate researchers, civil society, women and youth from across the continent to engage on climate change issues. The event is held in recognition of the fact that the end users of the work and the results of ClimDev-Africa results are rural and urban communities whose livelihoods, health and security are impacted by climate change.

Since the original proposals put forward in Addis Ababa in April 2006, discussions have taken place with a variety of stakeholders around the functioning of ClimDev-Africa.  In order to ensure that linkages with all relevant stakeholders are maintained, the annual conference takes place to:

  • Act as a forum for consultations around the operation of ClimDev-Africa;
  • Provide opportunities to exchange information and learning in relation to the operation of ClimDev-Africa and similar or related activities;
  • Build coherence of ClimDev-Africa with other activities; and,
  • Enable stakeholders to make representations to the CDSC as required.

Participants from the following broad categories are invited to the Conference:

  • National public/state/governmental institutions from across Africa;
  • RECs, RBOs and Regional Climate Institutions;
  • Civil Society Organisations and Non-governmental Organisations from across Africa;
  • Bilateral donors;
  • Multilateral organisations;
  • International NGOs;
  • Private sector organisations;
  • Researchers and technical experts;
  • Farmer, herder and fisherfolk representatives; and,
  • Any others they see fit.

Further details on the organization of CCDA-XII will be shared soon on this page.
