Accra, Ghana, September 20, 2022 - The Sub-Regional Office for West Africa of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA-SRO/WA), in collaboration with the Regional Institute of Population Studies (RIPS) and the Population Reference Bureau (PRB), is organizing the second edition of its Think Tanks and Experts Seminar on Population Dynamics for Development in Accra, Ghana, from September 28 to October 1, 2022
This meeting will be held in a context where the value of research is increasingly recognized, but the use of its results by policymakers to address issues or improve the effectiveness of implementation remains low worldwide, especially in low and middle-income regions like West Africa.
Under the theme " Bridging the gap between research and policy towards accelerating the demographic dividend in West Africa ", the second edition of the Think Tanks and Experts Seminar on Population Dynamics for Development aims to accelerate progress towards the realization of the demographic dividend by stimulating policy-oriented research and translation to enhance evidence-based policy and planning processes in the West African sub-region.
The specific objectives of this meeting are:

To engage researchers and discuss their roles in responding to policy needs in the sub region.

To further unpack the results of the survey and facilitate knowledge sharing and peer mentoring.

To facilitate experience sharing, peer mentoring and collaboration among researchers to promote evidence-based policy making.

To strengthen the network between the ECA-SRO-WA, knowledge producers and policy makers in the sub region.
The four-day meeting will be attended by think tanks, universities, research institutes, individual researchers, and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) at the forefront of research in the West African sub-region. Selected policy makers will also be invited to join the discussion.
