Online, August 25, 2021 - The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Service Centre for Africa and the Platform on Disaster Displacement will hold this Thursday, August 26 a conversation on human mobility in the context of disasters and climate change in Africa.

Within the framework of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, African Regional Review Conference, this event aims to discuss evolving regional and national initiatives across Africa aimed at minimizing the adverse drivers and structural factors that compel populations to move, while also facilitating safe, orderly and regular migration in the contexts of disasters and climate change in the IGAD and other regions in Africa.

This event is taking place in preparation for the Africa Regional Review Conference of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), occurring next week on 31 August and 1 September: an event jointly organized by the UN Network on Migration, the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), and hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco.

Viewers will be able to follow discussions in English, French and Arabic.

Participants and journalists wishing to get in touch with the organizers for questions or interview requests may send an email to lena.brenn@igad.int; hyewon.jung@undp.org.
