Online, 25 August 2021 – Engaging with the private sector and showing its positive impact on the implementation of the Global Compact for Migration by African countries will be at the heart of discussions of experts ahead of the Africa Regional Review Conference of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) on Thursday 26 August.

This meeting will contribute to preparations for an African Employers’ Declaration, to be presented at the International Migration Review Forum 2022 (IMRF 2022).

The objective of the event is to create a shared platform for the private sectors and governments from four sub-regions in Africa to address and discuss GCM objectives 5 (Regular pathways), 6 (Recruitment and decent work), and 18 (Skills development and recognition); the event will allow to further delve into the concrete business recommendations that will contribute to tangible actions and scalable best practices to present to the IMRF 2022.

The Global Compact for Migration is a cooperative framework for migration governance based on the recognition that no State can address migration alone, and that national migration policies are more likely to succeed through a whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach to international cooperation that is grounded in respect for human rights and the rule of law.

Viewers will be able to listen to discussions in English, and French.

Participants and journalists wishing to get in touch with the organizers for questions or interview requests are invited to send an email to winet@ioe-emp.com
