Zambia Conference postponed to 2023

Zambia was expected to host the 2020 IAOS-ISI Conference in Livingstone from 19 to 21 May 2020. It was going to be the first time an African Country hosted IAOS conference. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Conference is now postponed to 2023.

The 2020 Zambia Conference was to be the 17th International Association for Official Statistics Conference and 3rd International Statistical Institute Regional Statistics Conference. It was jointly organized with the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats)-formerly the Central Statistical Office under the theme: Better Lives 2030: mobilising the power of data for Africa and the world. The conference was intended to bring together statisticians and all those in government, universities, international organizations who care about the value of statistics to society. The theme was chosen to reflect that statistics have the power to transform lives.

The conference focus was on the seven themes below:

1. Future of Statistics for Africa: statistics that leave no one behind
2. Skills for Africa in the era of data
3. Official statistics in society: they matter to all of us
4. Big data. Opportunities arising from the new data ecosystem.
5. Statistics making a difference: public health, prevent and cure
6. Statistics making a difference: environment and climate
7. Statistics making a difference: from data to progress

Sixteen (16) of the papers submitted for the Conference were published in a special issue of the Statistical Journal of the IAOS (SJIAOS) which was to be used at the Conference.
