Rabat, 26 March 2021 - The ECA Office for North Africa and the Ministry Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, in charge of Moroccan Expatriates will hold, on Monday 29 March from 11:00 to 13:00 EAT a joint meeting under the theme “African immigrant women, entrepreneurs in the world”.
This meeting will take place under the chairmanship of ECA Executive Secretary and UN Deputy Secretary General Vera Songwe and H.E. Nezha El Ouafi, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, in charge of Moroccan Expatriates.
Africa currently has the largest proportion of female entrepreneurs in the world, with 24% of its entrepreneurs being women, and many successful female, African business leaders among its diasporas.
However, expatriate women business leaders often face multiple challenges, at both the cultural and identity levels, which add to the risks of entrepreneurship.
The meeting will be an opportunity to focus on:
- the role countries of origin can play in supporting initiatives by female, African immigrant entrepreneurs;
- how the digital revolution can help accelerate the economic empowerment of immigrant entrepreneurs and promote networking so as to strengthen their skills;
- how stakeholders can take into account the needs and perspectives of expatriate business leaders in the regional integration process currently promoted by the AfCFTA;
- what role expatriate entrepreneurs could play in the post-Covid19 economic recovery and Africa’s growth.
