Background
In March 2022, the Alliance for Entrepreneurial Universities in Africa was launched in Rwanda during the Africa Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Forum 2022. The main aim of this call is to advance entrepreneurship through education, research and innovation. The call is open to all universities in Africa, especially those that are members of the Alliance of Entrepreneurial Universities in Africa
About the Call
Does your university offer an (or taking steps to improve its) environment that inspires, cultivates, and promotes entrepreneurial skills, mindset and culture among students, researchers and the community? If so, this call is your opportunity to showcase how your university advances or is advancing entrepreneurship across disciplines in the institution, and its contribution to sustainable development. Cognizant of the fact that universities come in different shapes, sizes and interests, the call is tailored to focus only on a few of the attributes that underpin entrepreneurial universities.
The call is specifically designed to promote sharing of good practices in promoting entrepreneurship and commercialization of research through education. With about 1,225 universities that are ranked globally, African could benefit immensely even if only one (1) in ten universities (about 122) and actively brought to market five firms a year (a total of about 1,100 innovative firms entering the market) which in turn could in turn partners of universities and invest in R&D in future. This call is thus your opportunity to showcase your strategies, administrative processes and services that can help other universities interested in building their own entrepreneurship support environment in their own regions and countries.
To get the most out of this opportunity, it is important that your submission addresses or showcases the novelty of your approaches, processes and tools that encourage the wider adoption, diffusion, advancement, and support of entrepreneurship across the university.
The benefits of participation
The top 10 short-listed universities may be invited to the Forum on Promoting Entrepreneurship through Education for a Stronger Recovery from 25-27 October 2022, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where they will get the opportunity to present their case to a wider audience. The final winning universities will be selected by a team of independent judges and announced on the 27 November 2022. Furthermore, they will also be invited to share their cases at the Africa Science, Technology and Innovation Forum for Sustainable Development in March 2023 among other forums across Africa.
Eligibility criteria
All legal entities in Africa may submit ONLY one application. Beyond these generalities, the following criteria need to be met:
- The applicant must be in a management or leadership position at the University or its legal representative as the call is for universities.
- Your university must be at least ten (10) years old from the date it was legally first registered
- The university is legally registered in an African country.
- Membership of the Alliance of Entrepreneurial Universities is an added advantage
