Sao Tome and Principe Tourism Satellite Account Manual 2024
Documentation and compilation procedures, Tables 1–6

Tourism is a key and growing sector in São Tomé and Príncipe, and the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) provides a standardized framework for measuring its economic contribution. Based on the Tourism Satellite Account: Recommended Methodological Framework 2008, the TSA links tourism expenditure to key indicators such as gross domestic product (GDP), gross value added (GVA), and employment. Initial estimates show that tourism directly contributes about 11 percent of GDP and 10 percent of GVA, highlighting its importance to the national economy. This training manual supports the Tourism Satellite Account Technical Committee and other technical staff in compiling and updating TSA Tables 1–6. It outlines data requirements, national data sources, estimation methods, common challenges, and guidance for interpreting results. By applying these methodologies, users can produce reliable tourism statistics, generate key indicators such as Tourism Direct GDP, and strengthen evidence-based tourism planning and policymaking in São Tomé and Príncipe.
