African Energy Security Policy Framework provides a continental approach for assessing, monitoring and strengthening energy supply security across Africa. Developed by the African Union Commission, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, African Union Development Agency and African Energy Commission, it addresses challenges arising from infrastructure deficits, limited institutional capacity, market volatility, climate change, geopolitical risks and rising energy demand. Covering bioenergy, electricity, and oil and gas sectors, the framework promotes secure, reliable, affordable and sustainable energy systems that support economic transformation. It assesses energy security conditions across the continent, identifies risks and opportunities linked to energy transitions, and outlines strategic objectives, implementation measures and monitoring mechanisms. The framework further encourages regional integration, infrastructure development, regulatory harmonization, energy efficiency, resilience and cooperation in Africa.
The Statistics presented in the yearbook are, as possible in accordance with international recommendations and definitions. Where important deviations are known to exist, they are indicated in footnotes at the end of each country’s table.
