Gender and Climate Change in Africa Virtual Expert Group Meeting

27 novembre, 2020
Virtual

Africa Climate Change Policy (ACPC) at the United Nations Economic Commission (ECA) is organizing a validation expert group meeting of a Gender Equality in Climate Change in Africa report. Gender equality and women’s empowerment are critical and should be integral to all development policy-making and NDC processes. There is enough evidence to show that climate change is not gender-neutral; women and girls tend to be disproportionately affected by its impacts than do men and boys. There is evidence to show that climate change is contributing to widening of gaps on gender related division of social roles and deepening of vulnerabilities associated with climate risks.

The main objective of the Expert Group Meeting is to contribute experts’ inputs into finalization of the report. The report will serve to develop a policy framework to guide and inform sustained efforts at putting in place the foundation for Gender Equality in Climate Change in Africa. The experts will review key findings owing to their experience and knowledge of the subject and contribute to policy messages and recommendations to strengthen the report. The EGM will recommend viable policy options for mainstreaming gender in climate change processes in Africa.
