The Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Sub Regional Office for Southern Africa (SRO-SA) and the United Nations System in Lesotho will hold a two-day Regional Policy Dialogue to explore the sustainability of MSMEs in Southern Africa through leveraging LCPs and Frameworks. The Regional Policy Dialogue will be held in Maseru, Lesotho on 17-18 October 2023.
Objectives
The Regional Policy Dialogue will provide an opportunity for countries to share their experiences on utilizing LCPs and frameworks in terms of challenges, opportunities, and best practices. The dialogue will further interrogate on what has been embraced by larger firms and what has been avoided (how and why)? In addition to examining current practices in the region, particularly uptake of firms, the discussions will also look at emerging practices on the horizon.
Specifically, the regional dialogue will, through panel discussions, inter alia, deliberate on:
i) Local content Frameworks: Prospects and the future in the context of MSMEs in Southern Africa
ii) Challenges and Opportunities for MSMEs in the Implementation of Local Content Policies and Key Entry Points for Consideration
iii) Policy and Regulatory Requirements on Regional Value Chains (RVCs) and Local Content Requirements (LCRs)
Participants
The Regional Policy Dialogue on Leveraging Local Content Frameworks to Accelerate Growth and Sustainable Development of MSMEs in Southern Africa will be attended by experts from all 11 member states of SRO-SA from relevant government ministries, departments and agencies on Industry and Trade, International Non-governmental Organizations, gender experts from UNECA, the academia and the United Nations family.
