The Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the United Nations System in Eswatini will launch the Kingdom of Eswatini’s AfCFTA National Strategy and Implementation Plan: 2024 – 2028 on 7 March 2024, Ezulwini, Eswatini. The launch comes after a rigorous process of engagements with Cabinet and Parliamentarians, and a series of national stakeholder consultative meetings. The strategy articulates Eswatini’s plans for trade in the African continent, setting out a principled and holistic approach to trade policy. It also equips the country with a robust trade and investment framework, and an action plan to enable it to achieve sustainable growth, diversify export markets, grow the economy, and achieve higher living standards and wellbeing for the citizens.
Objective and Scope of AfCFTA National Implementation Strategy
The key objective of the AfCFTA national strategy is to complement a broader development framework, especially in relation to the trade policy environment of Eswatini to the AfCFTA Agreement. The national strategy facilitates the identification of regional value chains that can be exploited, maximisation of value addition benefits, identification of trade opportunities and constraints, including measures and capacities required to take full advantage of national, regional, and global markets for both goods and services within the context of AfCFTA.
