The ECA Sub-Regional Offices of Southern and North Africa , will collaboratively host a High-Level Policy Dialogue on the Development of E-Mobliity and Automotive Regional Value Chains on December 12th, 2024, in Lusaka, Zambia. This event will bring together policymakers, industrialists, support agencies, continental financial institutions, Regional Economic Commissions and academics from Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Malawi, Morocco, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The dialogue will leverage the experience of countries already advanced in the automotive and e-mobility sectors, drawing lessons from their progress to inform the expansion of these industries across the region.
Objectives of the Dialogue
The High-Level Policy Dialogue seeks to:
- Discuss and explore policy harmonization and strategic priorities for developing automotive and e-mobility RVCs;
- Assess the potential for partnerships, including public-private partnerships that enhances MSME Business linkages in the automotive and E-Mobility value chains in the region;
- Discuss and refine regulatory frameworks that create a supportive business environment for establishing and expanding automotive and e-mobility regional value chains, fostering job creation and promoting sustainable growth.
Expected Outcomes of the Workshop
I) Concrete recommendations addressing barriers and advancing RVCs in the automotive and E-mobility sectors;
ii) High-level commitments from member states to prioritize and support the development of automotive and E-Mobility value chains, as a driver of regional growth;
iii) Initiated public-private partnerships within the business and industrial community across the countries involved, aiming to facilitate the implementation of E-Mobility and automotive value chains in the region.
