Introduction
At COP31, Africa will advocate for accelerated implementation of climate commitments, placing climate justice, equity, resilience and sustainable development at the centre of global climate action. As a continent highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change while contributing comparatively little to global emissions, Africa will call for scaled-up, accessible and predictable climate finance; stronger support for adaptation and Loss and Damage; and a just and equitable energy transition. Africa will also seek fair participation in carbon markets and greater investment in climate-resilient infrastructure, green industrialisation and clean energy. At the same time, the continent will showcase its vast renewable energy potential, natural carbon sinks and youth-led innovation as critical assets for delivering climate solutions. In line with COP31’s emphasis on moving from commitments to implementation, Africa will advocate for partnerships and reforms that translate global climate pledges into tangible action that advances both climate resilience and sustainable development across the continent.
