Workshop on the Launch of the Ethiopia E-Mobility Strategy (2025–2030)

Introduction

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics (MoTL), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and strategic partners, will organize a national workshop on 25 May 2026 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to officially launch the Ethiopia E-Mobility Strategy (2025–2030).

Ethiopia is at a pivotal moment in its transition toward sustainable transport. The newly developed E-Mobility Strategy provides a comprehensive national roadmap to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility and promote a cleaner, more efficient, and resilient transport system.

The strategy reflects Ethiopia’s strong commitment to reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, improving urban air quality, enhancing energy security, and advancing climate goals. It also supports broader national priorities, including economic modernization, renewable energy utilization, and sustainable urban development.

The development of this strategy has been supported by key international partners, including the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and ECA, ensuring alignment with global best practices while tailoring solutions to Ethiopia’s unique context.

This workshop takes place in a timely continental context, following the endorsement of the African Continental Framework on Electric Vehicles by the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Transport and Energy on 30 April 2026, further reinforcing Africa’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.
