About the Event

Climate change is no longer just an environmental concern, it is a defining factor shaping trade competitiveness, industrial transformation, and value chain resilience across Africa.

This Validation Workshop, convened by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Sub Regional Office for Southern Africa (SRO SA), will bring together policymakers, private sector leaders, and regional stakeholders to review and validate findings of the study on: “Developing Green Value Chains in Southern Africa in the Context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA): A Case Study of Mauritius.”

The workshop will focus on aligning trade, climate, and industrial policies while identifying practical pathways for advancing green, circular, and resilient value chains across the region.

• Validate Circular Economy Value Chain Mapping: Confirm the relevance and feasibility of the identified priority sectors and value chains that support the development of a circular economy in Mauritius, including opportunities for resource efficiency, waste valorization, sustainable production and value addition.

• Explore Regional Replication: Engage selected SADC Member States in examining how the analytical framework and lessons from Mauritius could inform similar initiatives across the subregion, while gathering detailed feedback to strengthen the final report.
