Objective:
As part of the ongoing collaborative work between the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in Ghana, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) sub-regional offices for North Africa and West Africa, under its "Strengthening the migration-development nexus in Africa" programme, a toolkit for integrating migration and diaspora remittance into Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) medium-term development plans, has been developed. The toolkit highlights the critical linkages between migration, diaspora engagement, and development, offering step-by-step guidance on assessing migration dynamics, formulating goals and objectives, and establishing effective monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
To help build the capacity of MDAs, RCCs, and MMDAs in strengthening their understanding of the toolkit and its potential use in updating their respective medium-term development plans, the NDPC and the UNECA Sub-Regional Offices for North Africa and Western Africa are organizing a three-day workshop in Accra, Ghana.
The overall objectives of the capacity building workshop are to:
- Present and discuss Ghana’s toolkit for integrating migration and diaspora and contributions into Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) medium-term development plans.
- Orient and Train participants on how to use the toolkit to identify gaps in their respective medium-term development plans, and help them address those gaps, including establishing effective monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Build the capacities of participants to effectively integrate migration and diaspora remittances and contributions in their respective MDAs and MMDAs future medium term development plans.
- Build the capacities of participants to develop self-assessment tools to continuously evaluate the extent to which migration and diaspora issues are reflected in their respective work programmes and budgets
- Discuss on how to disseminate the toolkits and its use as development planning toolkit on migration and diaspora issues
