Public Financial Management (PFM) is essential for promoting the efficient, accountable, and transparent use of public resources. It encompasses critical areas such as budget preparation, revenue collection, and fund allocation, playing a vital role in enabling governments to deliver services while upholding fiscal integrity. The Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) framework supports PFM through its robust assessment tool, which evaluates and enhances financial management systems. PEFA's indicators empower governments, international organizations, and donor agencies to identify strengths and weaknesses in PFM, thereby guiding reforms aligned with international best practices.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in collaboration with the World Bank and the PEFA Secretariat, is hosting a PFM Conference and PEFA Flagship Training from 11-15 November 2024 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event comprises two components:
1. Africa PFM Conference (11-12 November 2024): A hybrid public event open to both in-person and virtual participants.
2. PEFA Flagship Training (13-15 November 2024): A specialized in-person training program for selected participants from the region.
This event aims to convene policymakers, practitioners, and experts in PFM and PEFA from across Africa to deliberate on recent advancements, share experiences, and explore innovative solutions for enhancing PFM systems. Through keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops, participants will gain deeper insights into how effective PFM contributes to sustainable economic growth.
