Overview
The Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) is a regional multi stakeholder platform that fosters dialogue on internet governance issues across Africa by bringing together a diverse array of participants to engage in meaningful discussions and collaborate on strategies that shape Africa's digital future.
The 13th Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF), scheduled to take place in a hybrid format 20 - 22 November 2024 at the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This year's forum is hosted by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation and Technology of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, under the theme "Building Our Multi-Stakeholder Digital Future for Africa."
The forum convenes a diverse group of stakeholders to discuss pressing internet and digital governance issues, aiming to identify key challenges, emerging trends and opportunities in the effort to build a shared vision for Africa's digital future, in alignment with the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aspirations of the African Union Agenda 2063 "The Africa We Want", the Global Digital Compact (GDC) and the Dar es Salaam Declaration on the African 20-Year Review of the World Summit on the Information Society (Africa WSIS Review).
Key areas of discussion encompass Cybersecurity and Cybercrime, Data Governance, Digital Rights and Human Rights, Sustainability, Universal Access, Meaningful Connectivity, and Emerging Technologies, including AI, among others.
Sessions at the AfIGF comprise of High-level sessions, Parliamentary Track, Youth Forum, National and Regional Internet Governance (NRI) workshops.
The outcomes from these discussions will play a crucial role in shaping contributions to the 19th Global Internet Governance Forum (IGF), scheduled to take place 15 - 19 December 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Registration
All participants of the AfIGF, whether attending online or in person, must register through the UN INDICO Accreditation System. To access the UN INDOCO Accreditation System click here.
- Following the approval of your registration (which might take 3-5 business days), you will receive a QR-coded confirmation email from INDICO along with an invitation letter, which you can use as a support letter to facilitate your e-visa application.
- Participation in the AfIGF is self-sponsored i.e., participants are responsible for arranging and funding their own travel, accommodation, and any related expenses.
- [For AfriSIG attendees only]: The African School on Internet Governance (AfriSIG), scheduled for 14 - 19 November 2024, is an annual five-day residential course, run by the Association for Progressive Communications. To access the UN INDOCO Accreditation System for the AfriSIG click here.

Applying for e-visa
Upon receiving your INDICO QR code confirmation and invitation letter;
- Apply for a conference or workshop visa by visiting the Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Service website: ww.evisa.gov.et/information/conferenceVisa.
- Travelers should submit their e-visa application at least 3 days before their estimated date of arrival.
