The Kingdom of Morocco has committed itself to meeting the challenges of the twenty-first century by involving the whole of society in sustainable development and by creating a new development model under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Today, the notion of sustainability covers more than what is found in climate commitments. It also encompasses responsible investment considerations and social, economic, environmental and governance issues. The mobilization of financing has always been central to discussions on sustainable development. Several major global initiatives have been launched to mobilize financing to combat climate change (e.g. the Green Climate Fund and the taxation of carbon emissions). Investments – especially long-term ones – facilitate the transition to a more sustainable green economy and strengthen the productive capacity of the economy. Climate change trends make it even more important to mobilize additional long-term investment to promote low-carbon energy and the efficient and responsible use of resources. Such investments are essential to limit global warming.
